The JetTeam Homeschools

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Helen co leader of the JetTeam and a homeschooling mom of 3 who has been pretending like I know what I am doing in this homeschool space for 5 years now. Fake it until you make it right? I am a lover of books new and old, reading them and writing them. I have my BA in history and anthropology, so you can probably guess my favorite subject to teach my kids. Even though history and LA are my favorite my kids take after my mom and their dad and are very math minded so we have a strong focus on math and science in our schooling.

We were one of the many families that did not set out to be homeschoolers but found that during the pandemic of 2020 that our child was thriving learning at home even in a environment, where lets be honest, no one was thriving. Even with that knowledge we sent him back into the classroom in 2021 and it took a full year of school for me to come to terms with the idea that a traditional class room was just not for us, at least not at this point in our lives. So in 2022 we took the leap! (I know that the date doesn’t look like the 5 years I mentioned previously but I was homeschooling my preschooler that year so I still count it.)

While I look back on my homeschooling journey from a place of lived experience and absolutely more knowledge then I had at the beginning. I can also say with absolute certainty that year 2, the first year with all my kids at home, was the year I was at my best. I was fresh! I had great ideas and energy and time to study the curriculum I had chosen. Ahh, having time, that was fun. I would’t say that the subsequent years have been bad by any stretch of the imagination, just not as instagram ready and well though out. I have found that every time I want to try something new, a new curriculum switching up our routine we do it for a bit and I always find myself back where we originally started. So basically what I am trying to say is, where ever you are in what ever stage of your journey you are doing great and you are capable! I hope you are able to find some motivation, and maybe a idea or two in this space.

Thank you for joining me on my little corner of the internet. I am looking forward to having a place to write more and to share my thoughts on this crazy homeschooling journey my family and I are on.
